Candy Dulfer & Funky Stuff

Candy Dulfer begon saxofoon te spelen op haar zevende, stond op haar twaalfde voor het eerst op het North Sea Jazz Festival en startte op haar veertiende haar eigen groep Funky Stuff.

Inmiddels deelde ze het podium met de allergrootste musici, van Maceo Parker, Van Morrison en Dave Stewart tot Larry Graham, David Sanborn en natuurlijk The Artist Formerly Known As Prince. Hun eerste samenwerking in 1988 werd tien jaar later, in september 1998, vervolgd met een gastrol van Candy tijdens de Amerikaanse tournee van The Artist.
Van Candy's cd's 'Saxuality', 'Sax-a-GO-GO', 'Big Girl' en 'For The Love of You' werden wereldwijd miljoenen exemplaren verkocht.

Caroline Lobanov Kwartet

Dit nieuwe jazzkwartet speelt op bezielde wijze eigen arrangementen van jazz- en popstandards.

Voor hun nieuwste project "Covered with Soul" selecteerden Caroline Lobanov en pianist Wim Veenhof een aantal bekende hits uit de jaren '60, '70 en '80 van de vorige eeuw. Songs van o.a. van Steve Miller, Kate Bush, de Police en Gloria Estefan ondergingen een muzikale "metamorfose". De arrangementen, geschreven door Caroline Lobanov en pianist Wim Veenhof balanceren tussen jazz en pop, hebben stuk voor stuk een geheel eigen sfeer en blazen de popstukken nieuw leven in.

Cassandra Wilson

Born on december 4 1955 in Jackson, Mississippi. Wilson started playing the piano and guitar at age nine. When she was twenty years old she began singing professionally, primarily folk and blues, working in commercial cover bands.

She cites "Sketches of Spain" by Miles Davis as a major musical revelation as a child. Miles Davis continued to be a major musical influence for throughout her career.
She recorded her debut album in 1985 entitled "Point of View" featuring Steve Coleman with whom she had recorded as a guest vocalist earlier and would continue to be a musical sparring partner. Catalin Milea

Catalin Milea was born in Bucharest, Romania. Around the age of 18 he was working as a driver and sometimes as a security agent during the night to pay his music lessons and to buy his first saxophone. In this period, he has two decisive encounters that direct him to his vocation. Listening the music of John Coltrane and meeting his mentor, the Romanian tenor saxophonist Garbis Dedeian makes him discover the urge for playing the saxophone. Na de Music High School heeft hij als trompettist bij de US-airforce Band gewerkt. Met dit orkest heeft hij eerst in de Verenigde staten en later in Spanje gewerkt. Aan het conservatorium in Madrid (Spanje) studeerde hij hoofdvak trompet en volgde Jazz- en improvisatielessen bij Lou Bennet en Vince Benedetti. Ook volgde hij masterclasses bij o.a. James Stamp en dirigeercursussen bij Perry White.

Charlie Watts Quintet

During the past 15 years, Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has been able to pursue his passion for jazz, playing in a variety of settings whenever he wasn't otherwise engaged with the "World's Greatest Rock 'n Roll Band." In 1985, he formed a big band and toured the States, ultimately releasing Live at Fulham Town Hall on the Sony label. In 1991, he formed a small group to pay homage to the music that first grabbed him while growing up in London. In a span of five years, The Charlie Watts Quintet released a series of stellar recordings -- From One Charlie, Tribute To Charlie Parker, Warm And Tender and Long Ago And Far Away -- that reaffirmed Watts' ongoing love affair with jazz. Charllotte Karlstedt

Charllotte is a vocalist of German-Swedish origin living in Amsterdam since 1998. Here she studied jazz-vocals at the famous local Conservatory.
She had the opportunity work with phenomenal vocalists, such as Mark Murphy and Nancy Marano and attended master classes from Bobby McFerrin, Dianne Reeves and Tuck and Patty.
During her studies, she also went to Sweden where she explored Swedish Shepard-music and Scandinavian Folk. These influences gave her an own sound and her music the final touch.
Her first CD “A Wish in the Dark” was released in December 2006 and received 4 stars from Platomania.

Chicago Jazz Band founded in 1997.
The bands name is related to the city of Schagen, in the Netherlands called the Chicago of Noord-Holland. In the past there were a well visited Jazzclub and Jazz Festival in Schagen and by the last festival our band was just looking for a new name. Chris Peeters

In a short period of time young dutch jazz singer Chris Peeters has revealed herself as a gifted vocalist in the dutch jazz scene. Her unique swinging style, inventive timing and subtle, warm interpretations have been her trade mark for a while now.
Chris’ musical roots lie in the jazz of the thirties and fourties of the last century. She has been brought up with jazz music and was already playing with father and musician Joep Peeters at an early age.

Cinnamonrose

Rosamint Faas werd voor Artishock gevraagd een muzikale lezing te verzorgen. Nooit had ze kunnen vermoeden dat dit de basis zou leggen voor een unieke band, die op geheel eigen wijze de jazz-muziek laat leven. De eerste cd is inmiddels een feit en de band kreeg de naam Cinnamonrose.

De aanpak van Cinnamonrose is uniek. Pianist en componist Coen van Dam studeerde in 1993 af als jazzpianist aan het Maastrichts Conservatorium met uitsluitend eigen composities. Zijn hoofdvakdocent was Irv Rochlin.
Op contrabas Henri Schuller en op drums Bart Spits of Geert Roelofs.
Coen speelde o.a. met John Engels en Jean-Louis Rassinfosse.
Zijn stijl doet denken aan de pianisten uit de jaren vijftig/zestig zoals Hampten Hawes en Sonny Clarke.

The Combustion Collective is a Seattle WA-based collective of musicians performing 100% improvised jazz with funky grooves. All music is spontaneously composed and performed simultaneously. Cor Fuhler solo

Cor Fuhler began playing the piano, organ, and self-made instruments at the age of six and graduated in '89 from the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. He began exploring music in groups such as Carduelis Carduelis and Wayang Detective (a combination of improv, gamelan and shadow puppets). He formed the trio Fuhler-Bennink-de Joode that is still active. Corrie van Binsbergen

Guitarist/Composer/Bandleader Corrie van Binsbergen (1957) finished her classical guitar studies in 1983. She has been active in a very wide musical range and played with numerous different bands and groups, in pop, jazz and improvised music, musical theatre and danceproductions, recording sessions, TV-shows and even the circus.
In 1999, Corrie van Binsbergen received the VPRO/Boy Edgar prize (the most prestigious award in Dutch jazz- and improvised music) for her creativity, craftsmanship and versatility. This prize is considered an oeuvre-prize.

Costas Andreou

Costas Andreou is a musician from Athens, Greece. He has collaborated with musicians, directors, actors, dancers and visual artists. Costas Andreou processes the sounds of fretted and fretless electric bass in real time, creating multi-level soundscapes. The organic instrument sound is processed with analog and digital effects and looped in real time, using various live looping techniques and a number of delay, feedback, tape and loop devices. COUSIN X

Cousin X is a group of original musicians, highly individual and with a strong reputation. Since the group was brought together by bassist Floris Vermeulen (Feb. 1992) they've combined Jazz, Hip Hop and World Music, resulting in an explosive combination of musical styles. The music of Cousin X contains modal as well as more advanced harmonic structures in which the musicians feel free to improvise. The music of Cousin X' is inspired by modern movements, introduced by artists as Steve Coleman and Frank Zappa, as well as the music of more contemporary artists like Charles Mingus and Jimi Hendrix.
