Groover Big Band

The Groover Big Band was set up in April 2005, in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Delft University of Technology. The big band forms a part of DSJV Groover of Delft. This is the first student jazz society in the Netherlands, and was founded in November 2006. In addition to supporting the big band, Groover organizes countless activities in the field of jazz and related styles.

The big band is formed by 18 enthusiastic students of the Delft University of Technology. The band is devided in: a grooving five-member saxophone section, a four-member trombone section, four trumpeters, and a rhythm section that makes the groove of the band complete with piano, guitar, bass, drums and vocals too!

Under leadership of conductor Peter Habraken, the big band makes music at a high level in the most diverse styles possible for a big band. Bebop, latin, blues, funk, pop and other modern big band styles are all a part of our musical vocabulary. Our repertoire contains both famous pieces, such as ‘Come Fly With Me’ by Frank Sinatra, and less famous but nevertheless powerful ones, such as ‘Full Count’ by Mark Taylor. Currently the Big Band is focusing on pieces that have been selected for the band’s tour to Italy and France coming summer.

In her short existence, the Groover Big Band has already placed her mark on the Big Band scene in and around the city of Delft. The band has played at diverse events in this home-city, including the welcome week of the University, at the renowned IO-festival, at the 135th birthday of the University of Delft. The band has performed in Rotterdam too, at the anniversary of the Econometric Dispute and also on a cruise-ship lying at the Erasmus Bridge. In May 2006, the Big Band toured to Hungary, and gave various performances in and around Budapest.

In addition to performing in Delft and the rest of the Netherlands, the Groover Big Band goes on a yearly tour to enable people in areas further away to also enjoy our music! show native description
