Jason Turner
A seasoned performer from the London jazz and avant-garde scene, performing and recording as a freelance artist in Europe and India.
With a background in jazz, soul/Motown and the avant-garde, now focussing on electronic music collaborations with funk, techno, trance and DnB producers and DJs.
Performed and recorded between 2002 and 2003 with Gujurati multipercussionist Sandeep Raval, multipercussionist and rhythm composer Sivamani and world music producer James Asher.
Performed and recorded since 2006 with the Joost van Oosten Band.
Main influences: John Coltrane, Archie Shepp, David Murray, Ellery Eskelin, Odean Pope, Steve Coleman, Steve Williamson, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Sam Rivers, Illinois Jacquet, Thelonious Monk, Dollar Brand, Sun Ra, Frank Zappa, all kinds of Klezmer, Rembetika, Middle-Eastern, Indian and Russian music. Also hip-hop, house and electronica in general, especially DnB and Asian Underground.
