Marga Poel, 43 years old, has been surrounded by music all her life. Her father was a musician, he played jazz and popular music in the fifties and sixties.
She started to play the piano when she was six,and studied classical piano at the conservatory of Alkmaar and Utrecht.
That's where she met Bert van den Brink.
In 1996, when RSI made an end to her career as a pianist, it was him who advised her to start singing. He introduced her to Ronald Douglas, whom she took lessons from for more than two years. She also studied with Josee Koning
and Sylvie Lang.
On her "journey through the land of modern music" she discovered her love for Brasilian music, and also that good lyrics are very important to her. When Ingram Washington heard her sing, he told her:"you sing from your heart, don't ever lose that".
After having appeared at jazz-sessions for two years, she decided to make her own CD, called "Listen Here..."
On this CD she has recorded some of her favourite songs: up tempo jazz, ballads and Brasilian music go hand in hand, from Gershwin to Monk, from Jobim to Cartola
