Margriet Sjoerdsma

Born on 5.10.1983 in Sittard The Netherlands, Margriet Sjoerdsma started playing the violin at a very early age. But her true passion was singing so after finishing Grammar School she went to the Rotterdam Conservatory to study jazz.
She recently graduated there with very good results. In 2002 Margriet was awarded a final prize at the prestigious ‘Prinses Christina Jazz Concours’ where she was a competitor together with her pianist Dimitar Bodurov.

Since then Margriet and Dimitar have been working together as a duo and in June 2005 they recorded their debut CD ‘With the whisper of a morning ’together with Cord Heineking and Bernhard Weichinger. Dimitar has won several prizes like Erasmus Jazz Prijs, Pim Jacobs Prijs and participated in 2005 at the prestigious Montreux Solo Piano Competition.

Since the release of their CD, they played many gigs, and in 2007 they made their debut at the North Sea Jazz Festival. From october 2007 on their theatretour will start in Heerlen. Autumn 2007: one track of the CD will be released at the Aangenaam Jazz Compilation, which will be available soon in all record stores!

In 2008/2009: Margriet will be doing a new theatre tour, with Jeffrey Bruinsma (violin) as a guest by Jazzimpuls. And in the beginning of 2008 their 2nd CD should be ready to be released. So keep track!
