Micha Schellhaas - Guitarist/Bassist/Composer/Teacher

Born in 1979 he started playing classical guitar at the age of 9. Two years later he switched to electric guitar. Blues and Rock music were his source pf inspiration and he started copying his guitar heroes like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clatopn.
Soon he started playing in various bands. From Southern Rock, to Pop and Rock cover bands and the Jazz big band of his school, he involved himself in as much music as he could.
Later on he decided to make music his frist choice in life. He started studying at the "Jazz and Rock School" in Freiburg/Germany. Two Years Later he changed schools and got accepted at the Music Conservatory in Arnhem/Netherlands. Here he had the opportunity to learn from great Jazz teachers, wich gave his musical development a new direction. He started listening to Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon, George Benson, Pat Metheny, John Coltrane and many more of those great jazz masters.
Ever since his playing changed more and more, and the jazz influence grew stronger. Never denying his "roots" he is combining his blues and rock past with the love for traditional and modern jazz he discovered in those years.

In 2007 he finished the conservatory in Arnhem with a masters degree, but his place of choice became Amsterdam. Micha plays all over the Netherlands in various formations. His steady groups cover a great variety of styles: from Latin to modern Jazz up to Drum&Bass. Micha also had a tour as a bass player in spring 2008 with the amsterdam theater company "het syndicaat".
