In 1994 Saskia formed her Saskia Laroo Band originally called The Laroo Colour and recorded her first album It’s Like Jazz. This debut CD is her take on acid-jazz where she was inspired to follow the concept of Miles Davis Doo-Bop. Saskia Laroo creates new styles, which are described as new jazz or swinging body music. Saskia ’s concept is borne of years playing, experimenting, grooving. She combines various music styles such as jazz, pop, dance and world and cultures in a way as if they always meant to be together.
The Saskia Laroo Band, a multi-national unit pulsating with contemporary sounds and the power of the ages rife with groovy rhythms, exciting solos, and kickin’ rap vocals. This funky formation plays songs from Saskia’s debut acid jazz album It ’s Like Jazz as well as from her dance jazz album Bodymusic.
The Saskia Laroo Band has performed at the Capetown Jazzfestival (South Africa), Koktebel Festival (Ukraine), North Sea Jazz Festival (the Netherlands), Burghausen Jazzwoche (Germany), Montreux Jazz Festival (Swiss), Sofia Jazz Festival (Bulgaria), Autumn Jazz Festival Prague (Tsjechia), Hamra Festival (Lebanon), Mega Dance Festival (South Korea), Sunset Festival (Japan), Atlanta Jazz Festival (USA), Bogota Theatro Jazz Festival (Colombia), Mama Jazz Festival (Lithuania), Kuwait Jazz Festival, Bali & Java Jazz Festival (Indonesia), Paramaribo Jazz Festival (Surinam), Yatra Jazz Festival (India), etc.
The Saskia Laroo Band has worked with guest soloists such as Hans Dulfer, Rosa King, Julius Green, rappers Stewlocks, Vlash, Blixx, Ron Wright etc.
